The Pieces Series.

After working through the transitional pieces, I had discovered another need to work through.
I felt frustrated. I still felt myself needing to resolve more than I wanted to. After talking with
another artist about my frustration, I was FINALLY able to figure out what was wrong.
I determined that I was STILL being a slave to form.

I was having tremendous success with sketches. I was VERY satisfied with the simplicity of the line and
space relationship. However, in my attempt to create paintings based on my sketches, I would loose that
simplicity. I would build forms. I wanted lines and space.

The result was the Pieces Series. I was successfully able to combine form, line, space and energy.
And
, use only pieces of the figure, eliminating 'sense.' I did the entire series from May 5 - 19.
At the end, I felt I was using what I had found, and that I had quit discovering. So, I ended the series
and have not done any since. I fully intend to use what I found. I don't know where that will
take me, though. I feel one of the most successful image is the second green one.

Two things of note. I find it funny - there are no teeth in these images. And, notice the head.
In the first ones, the head is pretty solid. By the end of the series, the head is almost
completely broken in half. Broken Head. Maybe that is what I was after.
