NYC Transitional Work

1999 Work

1999 was a year of chaotic transition in my world. I went from tiny town security to NYC chaos. I also went from a place of self-definition to a place of frustrating qualifiers, yardsticks and carrots. It was a true test of my strength and all that I had found since my resumption of artmaking in 1997. What resulted is largely not in these pages. I did a tremendous amount of small drawings (some to the right), a large number of medium size images that I have not shot, and just a lot of adjustment work. I literally went from a large work space to a second bedroom, that took a lot of time and energy to get to work for my needs. It is still in process, three years later. Nevertheless, I do included on this page what I feel to be one of my most successful series: the October 1999 Series. Something about these ones really does it for me - I feel that I really am able to communicate my emotional position. And, I keep them hung in my house to remind me to keep painting.
