1997 Work
1997
found me in the resumption of image-making after a very long - over four years
- hiatus. It was very difficult to find something that I wanted to work on,
so I just tried to work from where I was standing, literally. I found many,
many directions in this difficult year, but the most successful result was
finding my voice with an image,
finding my self-confidence and
personal strength within my own definitions, limiting the measure by commercial
world. Little did I know, that, five years later, I would still be struggling
with the exact same
issues, just from a different side.
On
this page, the one image to the
right, should.shoULD.SHOULD. is
one of my favorites of all time. In an effort to identify the *shoulds* that
I
was unknowingly bound by, I inscribed on the background many *shoulds* of
my current state of life. Statements
like "I should have a good job. I should have gone to an ivy-league school.
I should mow my lawn. I should act appropriately. I should not want to kill
my neighbor's dog." appear on the painting. People seem to be very,
very attracted to this piece.
On
this page is a sampling of 1997.
Pieces vary in size, but most are
large - 5 - 6ft in longest side.
